Firework Displays

The Fourth of July is no longer the day of universal celebration that Founding Father John Adams envisioned, far quieter than it once was even 50 years ago. But there are still many celebrations to mark the nation’s founding. Here is a list of fireworks displays and other patriotic observations to celebrate the Fourth.

JUNE 30th
Lime Rock, Connecticut
The ever-popular event at Lime Rock Park attracts spectators from all over Connecticut, so get there early. Gates open at 6PM for the 9PM fireworks. Concessions will be open. $20 per carload. Rain date July 1.

JULY 4th
Lenox, Massachusetts
The two James Taylor performances at Tanglewood, an annual concert he performs to benefit the musical venue, are sold out but the firework display that follows his 8 PM July 4th concert can still be enjoyed in the skies over Stockbridge Bowl..

North Adams, Massachusetts
After the annual Fourth of July SteepleCats game, fireworks will start about 9:30 PM.

Williamstown, Massachusetts
Gather on Spring Street at 11 AM for Williamstown’s classic holiday parade. At 1:30 PM, make your way to Williams College’s Sawyer Library to hear Williamstown Theatre Festival actors read the Declaration of Independence and the British reply before viewing the Chapin Library’s Founding Documents of the United States collection. End the evening with fireworks at the Taconic Golf Club.

Claremont, New York
Clermont State Historic Site hosts its annual old-fashioned Independence Day. The day includes 18th-century crafts, hot food and period entertainment before ending with fireworks over the Hudson River. Begins at 2 PM

Germantown, New York
The Town of Germantown, itself, hosts an Independence Day Celebration each Summer. Gates open at Palatine Park at 4 PM and there will be fireworks above the lake around 9:30 PM. Live music, vendors and food add to the festive atmosphere.

Poughkeepsie, New York
The city's annual fireworks extravaganza is not to be missed. There are many opportunities to view the spectacular that are free of charge but the walkway over the Hudson River is an amazing option for just $10. 9 PM. Rain date, July 5th.

JULY 6th
Torrington, Connecticut
Gates open at 4 PM for the fireworks show at the Torrington Middle School. The fireworks begin at dusk. Rain date, July 7th. The event also features carnival rides, games and food vendors both days. Fees charged for parking.

JULY 7th
Otis, Massachusetts
Annual fireworks display over Otis Reservoir, 419 Tolland Road, begins at dusk. Rain date is July 14th.

JULY 28th
North Canaan, Connecticut

Held at Lawrence Field, the fireworks finish off Railroad Days, which is chock full of family-friendly events over the course of two weeks. 9PM
