A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM: OPEN-CAPTION PERFORMANCES
IN PERSON

Shakespeare & Company is presenting a series of open-caption performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream, featuring the Northeast Regional Tour of Shakespeare. They will be open-caption performances with a large projection screen above the stage, displaying the text the actors are reciting via "super captions." The shows will be enjoyable for all, accessible for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, and sensory-friendly for those with sensory preferences. Those attending Saturday's performance can also enjoy Shakespeare's Birthday Bash, complete with delicious cake! $10 - $20.

18TH ANNUAL PITTSFIELD CITY JAZZ FESTIVAL

The 18th Annual Pittsfield CityJazz Festival is held as part of Jazz Appreciation Month, a national observance that was conceived by the Smithsonian Institution in 2001 and later sanctioned by Congress. Opening night also falls on the eve of another celebratory event--Duke Ellington's 125th birthday anniversary which will be observed during some of the performances. Enjoy fantastic music throughout the festival from an Open jam session and swing dance to a Jazz Crawl and a Jazz Prodigy Concert. The festival's annual Jazz Crawl anchors the weekend featuring local artists in restaurants and lounges throughout downtown Pittsfield. Headline concerts include trios headed by two phenomenal pianists at different stages of their careers--the teenage prodigy Brandon Goldberg and the experienced, masterful Marcus Roberts. Free.

EARTH DAY CELEBRATION: COMMUNITY CARING

The Washington Environmental Council is hosting an Earth Day celebration at The Judy Black Memorial Park & Gardens where you can enjoy live music, refreshments, family-friendly activities and community fun! Local environmental organizations will also be there to help inform and support efforts to protect our earth including those from Steep Rock and Lake Waramaug Associations. Additionally York Labs will offer reduced-price water testing on-site. You can sign up for the Environmental Council's Annual Roadside Cleanup Event from April 18th - 21st and help keep Washington beautiful! Free.

NORFOLK EARTH FORUM: HONORING RACHEL CARSON

The Norfolk Earth Forum will present a series of events this weekend honoring Rachel Carson's achievements and profound impact on the modern environmental movement and announce plans for the Rachel Carson Springsong Museum in Maryland. Saturday's events include a "Books & Boots" Hike & Talk with the Norfolk Library and a lecture titled "Connecting Community and Nature" by the Founder of the Springsong Museum, Rebecca Henson. On Sunday families can participate in a learning and craft experience, "Help the Pollinators," in the morning, followed by the play, "A Sense of Wonder," based on the life and writings of Rachel Carson and performed by actress Kaiulani Lee. Free.
